Y’all know how much we love Charleston, SC. However, I was so excited to visit Isle of Palms. It is right outside of Charleston, but with a totally different vibe and I have never been!
We all deserve a peaceful and relaxing weekend every now and then, Wild Dunes Resort is the perfect place for this. Believe me, I already feel lucky enough to live at Myrtle Beach, where you can easily live like your on vacation. But, it’s also nice to get a way from your normal routine every once in a while.
Escaping to Wild Dunes seriously made us feel like we were taken to a far away remote island. Nestled on the northern tip of Isle of Palms, a lush barrier island off the coast of South Carolina, Wild Dunes Resort, is located just 30 minutes from the charm and grace of historic downtown Charleston.
Wild Dunes Resort is like a little community in itself, it is comprised of The Boardwalk Inn, The Village at Wild Dunes, and Vacation Homes & Villas.
Accommodations
There are two different hotel properties at the resort. The first is The Village at Wild Dunes, which offers traditional king or two-queen guest rooms in addition to studios and one, two and three-bedroom suites with full kitchens.
The second property at the resort is The Boardwalk Inn, where we stayed. We had a deluxe room with two queen beds and a private balcony overlooking the pool. I couldn’t complain about sitting out on the balcony drinking my coffee listening to the ocean in the background.
Activities
Sweetgrass Basket Workshop
The girls both learned about sweet grass baskets when they came to Charleston for a field trip a few years ago. I booked the class through the resort before we arrived and I’m so glad I did! They learned how to start a basket, coil the sweet grass, and use the nail bone to sew in the palmetto fronds.
They both made a small basket that they got to keep, but more than that, it was an opportunity to see what this pastime is all about. Local basket maker, Sarah Edwards-Hammond of Charleston Sweet Grass Baskets by Sarah was an amazing teacher and so patient with the girls! Such a fun learning experience for all of us!
There seemed to be so many other activities that we didn’t even get to begin to enjoy! However, we did get to hang out at one of the pools the evening we checked in. There are 4 to choose from! One is even an Adult Only Pool which is nice because sometimes we need a little break from the kiddies!
Food
Saturday afternoon we had lunch at Coastal Provisions, which is located right inside The Boardwalk Inn. Lunch was delicious and I absolutely adored the beachy decor and ambiance at the restaurant.
Holiday Festival Of Lights
Saturday night we took advantage of the first weekend of the Holiday Festival of Lights. Located in James Island County Park. The drive thru light festival is the largest in South Carolina and it did not disappoint!
Here are some pictures of our favorite displays.
Sunday we slept in a little bit before unenthusiastically packing to leave. I mean, who ever really wants to leave vacation? Not this girl!
We had a wonderful time! We can’t wait to go back when we have more time to spend there! I highly recommend Wild Dunes Resort as the place to plan your weekend getaway or vacation.
