Not only is it affordable but it’s super easy too! Whether your making gifts for your kids, your spouse, teachers, or coworkers I can guarantee you can make them a gift they are sure to love. Check out this easy to make personalized gift idea with Cricut!
DIY Coasters
One of my favorite things to make with the Cricut are coasters made with Infusible Ink. Here is a step by step tutorial so you can easily make your own and give them as a gift this year!
The first thing you need to do is to create your design in Cricut Design Space. If you are making your own design, the coasters are 3.75″ x 3.75″ so take that size into consideration.
I wanted to make a personalized coaster, as well as a Christmas themed coaster to include together as a gift. You can search for whatever you are looking for in Design Space. There are so many designs to choose from.
After you have your design click Make It in the upper right corner. When you get to the Prepare screen, make sure to mirror your image if it needs to be on your coaster a certain way. Infusible Ink is like iron-on vinyl you will need to reverse your image for it to adhere correctly to the base. Then click Continue.
In the Make screen, select Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet as your material. Make sure you have the Fine Point blade inserted.
CUT YOUR DESIGN AND WEED
Place your Infusible Ink transfer sheet ink side up on a cutting mat. Then insert into your machine and cut!
I learned quickly you don’t need to use your weeding tool to weed the Infusible Ink. You can sort of just bend the paper and the negative space comes off easily.
LAY OUT YOUR COASTERS FOR INFUSIBLE INK AND PRESS
Next, we are going to make a stack for the heat press. Top to bottom it goes:
- Cricut EasyPress 2
- Butcher paper
- Design, face down
- Cricut Square Coaster Blank, face up
- White Cardstock (80 lb / 216 gsm) or 4 layers butcher paper
- Cricut EasyPress Mat
The EasyPress 2 will heat your image THROUGH the coaster.
According to Cricut’s Heat Settings Guide, the time and temperature for Infusible Ink with the coasters is 400° for 60 seconds. Apply no pressure and once the 60 seconds are over allow to cool before peeling the transfer sheet off.
I am extremely impressed with the way the Infusible Ink turns out. It is definitely one of my favorite things to use with the Maker. These personalized coasters will make the perfect Christmas gifts this year, I decided to add a fun Hot Chocolate Bomb and a Christmas themed mug with the coasters as well, I think anyone would love this gift! The coaster blanks are 50% off right now on Cricut.com!
Personalized gifts are amazing, aren’t they? The Cricut Maker is the ultimate professional-level cutting machine. This machine is incredible and so powerful and would make an amazing gift in itself this year as well! If you can dream of the project, then the Maker can probably help bring it to life. I can’t wait for you to try it!
