Ren’s First Birthday Pawty

July 8, 2019

Throwing The Perfect First Birthday Pawty

While some of my friends and family will roll their eyes reading this and I’m sure there were some guests at The Sneaky Beagle who thought I was ridiculous but I didn’t care. Ren’s first birthday was Saturday and I threw him a first birthday pawty. Yup, I’m that girl.

But before you roll your eyes and call me crazy, (I’m sure you probably already did.) I’d like to tell you the story of why he totally deserved it.

This guy came into our lives totally unexpected after we lost our 10-month-old Doak. We were all truly heartbroken and lost. As soon as I saw that adorable little split face I knew he was going to be mine, Jeff wasn’t ready but I convinced him. Now he is a spoiled daddy’s boy. He was just what our family needed after a horrible loss and he has brought so much joy and happiness to our life. That my friends is why he got a special 1st birthday party!

Our Doak

The Pawty

The Sneaky Beagle is a new local restaurant right around the corner from us that is dog-friendly. We have taken Ren a few times before and he loved the Crabby Dog Eats food on the dog menu. I figured why not have his party there?! The Sneaky Beagle was happy to accommodate us, 15 humans and 5 fur friends on the back patio.

The Cake

Crabby Dog Eats already works with The Sneaky Beagle to provide the food for the dog menu so I asked if they would want to make a cake for Ren, they said of course and they did not disappoint! All the dogs enjoyed the cake and wanted more!

First Birthday Pawty

It was a fun party and the pups had fun playing with each other!

And last but not least a first birthday isn’t complete without a first birthday photo shoot! Thanks to Custom Printables NY for the customized dog birthday chalkboard for Ren! It was the perfect touch for his photos.

It was a perfect party for our perfect boy!

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our big boy and a special thanks to The Sneaky Beagle and Crabby Dog Eats for the amazing accommodations and delicious cake!

Le Grand Cirque | Myrtle Beach

June 26, 2019

Last night we had a family night out and went to see the “must see show for 2019,” Le Grand Cirque here in Myrtle Beach! All of us were quite impressed and it kept both Mackenzie and Brynna’s attention the entire time, which says a lot in itself if anyone knows them!

Le Grand Cirque

What is Le Grand Cirque?

The two-hour performance is a non-stop thrill ride that will keep the crowd on the edge of its seat. The show allows the action to speak for itself from the skill and energy of the performers. The venue which is a large tent similar to a circus tent allows an intimate view of the action. The show is full of action featuring amazing physical feats of skill and strength.

There’s no ring-leader only a mime that entertains the crowd with audience participation. He had us laughing so much! Brynna’s friends from school and our neighbors were at the same show and one of the twins actually got to come on stage and let me tell you he stole the show at the beginning! He had us cracking up! Also, a word to the wise: arrive on time or you will likely be the subject of the mime’s jokes.

Le Grand Cirque

Adrenaline Pumping

This show will keep you on the edge of your seat and it will get your heart pumping! I kept turning my head because I was nervous but kept going back for more! The guys on the trampoline were amazing with some awesome acrobatics. The performer with the “hula hoops” had us all watching intently, she was very fun and interactive with the crowd! You can tell she loves what she does!

Balance, flexibility and dangerous stunts kept us all wanting more!

The “Wheel of Death” is one of the most extreme stunts I have ever seen performed on any stage. There are two performers on the wheel and they are both up there walking in a “wheel” at one end of a pendulum that is swinging. It is scary enough when both of them are walking inside the two wheels as the pendulum speeds up, but it approaches insanity when one of them gets on top of the revolving wheel and performs. They do even more extreme stunts while on the wheel but I don’t want to spoil everything for you!

Entertaining

The show kept us laughing and entertained the entire time. I know there are tons of options for shows here in Myrtle Beach but if you can see only one during your stay I’d highly recommend this one.  This show will have you holding your breath and laughing out loud! It truly is amazing the things these people can do.

If you are in the Myrtle Beach area and looking for something fun to do definitely check out Le Grand Cirque. Tickets range from $17.95-$44.95.

Earth Day Beach Clean Up | The Georgia Sea Turtle Center

April 22, 2019

In honor of Earth Day and our recent trip to Ohio for the Live Justice Summit, Brynna wanted to help me with today’s blog post.

Earth Day Inspiration

During one of the sessions at the Live Justice Summit the girls were asked about a business idea they had. Brynna’s idea was to clean up our beaches to help save sea turtles and of course the environment. I love that she was inspired to bring her idea home and put it to work, it doesn’t necessarily have to become a business but just a way to get people to help clean up the beaches!

Since the weather is finally getting warmer, it is the perfect time of the year to get everyone out of the house. I do my best to find ways to get both of my daughters to unplug from their electronics. Grabbing a bucket and picking up some trash on the beach only takes a few minutes but it could have a huge impact! Look what Brynna found in just 5 minutes of a beach clean up yesterday!

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center

While Earth Day is traditionally about conservation and environmental activism, it is also a great time to have an experience that could teach your child about what he or she is passionate about. From Ohio and the Live Justice Summit we went directly on our Spring Break trip to Jekyll Island. We had planned on visiting The Georgia Sea Turtle Center while we were there but after learning how passionate Brynna was about saving the turtles I knew this was a place we definitely had to visit on our trip. I am so glad we did because it was truly an eye-opening experience!

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is located on Jekyll Island on the coast of Georgia, opened back in 2007. Not only is the center a rehabilitation facility and hospital for sea turtles, but it’s also an educational center raising awareness of the damage that has been done and steps we need to take in order to protect our environment. The center is both a working rescue center and an educational resource. Although we did learn a lot about the different types of sea turtles and their life cycles, we also learned so much more about the environment in general.

Plastic

I was literally in shock when I read that it takes 450 years for a plastic bottle to break down. That’s astonishing – in a bad way! I was even shocked to realize how long it took biodegradable items to disintegrate, as I previously thought it happened a lot quicker. I definitely believe the more we are all aware of just how bad the situation, the more we can take action for the future of the environment.

Watching the operating room was very interesting. Spectators can’t hear what’s going on inside the room, but there is a white board that explains (in very simple terms) what they’re doing. While we were there we watched a turtle have his dressing changed, he was hit by car. Poor guy!

After our visit to the to The Georgia Sea Turtle Center we realized that we can easily help save the turtles, and you can too! Start by picking up after yourself when you go to the beach, taking proper measures to recycle and reduce single-use plastics like straws, and to become an advocate!

Brynna’s Beach Bucket Clean Up

An estimated hundreds of thousands of sea turtles die each year from ocean pollution, with many ingesting or becoming entangled in marine debris. Hungry sea turtles love to snack on jellyfish, but sometimes they can mistake a plastic bag for a jellyfish, but in consuming this debris, sea turtles can suffer blockages in their digestive systems that may lead to their death. In other cases, plastic in their guts may damage a turtle’s ability to absorb food and nutrients, weakening the animal over time. These turtles need our help.

We know that there are others doing their part to help protect Earth and all the creatures and plants living on it. It is time we do our part as well!  So if you are heading to the beach, grab a bucket and pick up the not so lovely trash that others have left behind. What can you find in 5 minutes?

What is your favorite way to celebrate Earth Day and care for our planet?

Hi, I’m Jamie and I’m so happy you are here!

I started Boots Bows and Beaches a few years ago to share our craziness that is being married, working full time and of course being a mom of two teen girls.

Who knew I would learn so much and make such great friends while listening to country music and dealing with teenage hormones.
