13 Years Later…On Getting Married Young

July 9, 2018

My husband and I celebrate our 13 year wedding anniversary today.

Looking back now, well it makes me laugh. I’m sure everyone thought we had lost our minds.

“You’re too young” they said.

We were supposed to go to college, we were supposed to buy nice cars and a house. We were supposed to be stable and know exactly who we were and what we were doing in life before we even considered getting married. That’s what we were being told over and over again.

We were two crazy kids in love who had no clue what life was about. 19 and 20 years old. Not even of the legal drinking age (although we all know how the wedding reception ended.) No, I wasn’t pregnant. Believe me I can’t begin to count the amount of times we were asked that question.

Falling in love with someone at a young age means they become not only your world, but your travel buddy, your best friend, and your other half. Believe me when I say we’ve seen life get ugly throughout our 13 years. It definitely hasn’t always been rainbows and butterflies.

In the last 13 years I have learned more about life, myself, and love than I ever could have imagined.

Marrying young did not make us old. Marrying young did not stop us from going out to bars and drinking too much. It did not stop us from traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. Marrying young did not prevent us from trying new things and pursuing our dreams. It did not stop us from enjoying the things we love.

So today, as we celebrate 13 years of marriage. We have been through a lot together…good, bad & ugly. I am thankful I can say I love my husband even more today than I did 13 years ago. I would do it all again, 13 years later, without hesitation. We were two young, scared kids back then and now look at us, we have 2 beautiful, amazing daughters, and living in our dream home at the beach.

There will be moments and days that are really hard. And believe me I was tempted to think it’s because we got married young, but really, it’s just because we got married. Life is hard no matter where you live, and no matter who you live this life with.

We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, and most of all we’ve prayed. Through it all, I’ve realized how truly blessed I am to have this man beside me in the good times and the bad…

“For better or for worse”

Hi, I’m Jamie and I’m so happy you are here!

I started Boots Bows and Beaches a few years ago to share our craziness that is being married, working full time and of course being a mom of two teen girls.

Who knew I would learn so much and make such great friends while listening to country music and dealing with teenage hormones.
