Boots Bows & Beaches

Promise her anything but give her the beach, big bows & nice boots!

My daughter says she’s a VSCO girl and I’m here for it

August 27, 2019

VSCO is actually a photo and video editing app known for its filters. But, tween and teen girls are now calling themselves VSCO girls.

VSCO

Over the weekend my daughter totally schooled me on what exactly being a VSCO girl means. I was nervous to find out because usually anything that is trendy these days isn’t always the best. I had to say I was pleasantly surprised and actually, am ready to embrace this trend…maybe because a VSCO girl is basically just me reliving my childhood.

Okay, so what is a VSCO girl?

From my understanding its pretty much the most basic girl you will find. A VSCO girl is apparently very aesthetically pleasing, trendy and loves the beach lifestyle. So far so good.

Scrunchies, shell necklaces, checkered Vans, Polaroid cameras, oversized t-shirts, and Hydro Flask water bottles are apparently some of the top items you need to be a VSCO girl.

Y’all I’m totally here for this trend!

Another major part of being a VSCO girl is being environmentally conscious. VSCO girls love using metal straws and Hydro Flasks to “save the turtles.” I mean if there’s any trend that I want my daughter to fall victim to it would be this one!

VSCO

Also, little to no makeup is involved which is another yes from me. I’m told it’s very light and very natural, embracing their natural features. I can totally deal with my daughter wanting some scrunchies and a shell necklace and natural makeup!

Whether this trend is just for social media or it continues at school I’m totally okay with it! Plus, the look is giving me major throwback vibes to my childhood and tons of nostalgia!

Although this trend really isn’t something new, lets’ face it, this is what most moms dressed like back in the ’90s. This is really just a way for young tween and teen girls to connect at an age where their bodies and minds are going through major changes.

If a VSCO girl is what they are calling it then I’m here for it. Now I’m off to Amazon to order more scrunchies and shell necklaces.

Last Day of 5th Grade

June 3, 2018

I can’t believe that my girl is “graduating” from the 5th grade tomorrow. I’m sure those of you with graduating seniors are rolling your eyes at me right now, but please bear with me and let me have my moment.

I know it sounds cliché but it really does feel like she just started Kindergarten. Since Mackenzie is our oldest this is all uncharted territory for us.

We’ve been fortunate to have the teachers in our life that we’ve had. Amazing teachers from Kindergarten through Fifth. Each one has been wonderful to our girl. Thank you for your sense of humor, for your patience, and for all the work you put into my child. Most of all, thank you for loving her.

We have been so blessed by our sweet Ocean Bay family. It wasn’t easy moving in the middle of elementary school but every teacher and friend made the transition so much easier. We are forever grateful and thankful for such an amazing school!

Tomorrow morning, the little girl that I once drove in my bus to her first day of Kindergarten, handed her off to my mom with tears streaming down my face, will be finished with elementary school. She’s not grown up yet, but definitely well on her way.

It really just feels like a few days ago that she was this little girl in her plaid dress heading off to Kindergarten.

Then First Grade

Second Grade

Third Grade (The first year at Ocean Bay)

Fourth Grade

And Finally Fifth Grade

Every year that passes is another year closer to when my girls will both be leaving me and heading out into the big world full of experiences. I won’t sugarcoat it, the next 3 years are going to be some awkward years. But the truth is I love where we are right now. I like having a big kid. And I am so proud of this big kid and so excited to see what the future holds for her!

But that doesn’t mean I won’t be wiping away tears tomorrow morning as she is officially finished with Elementary School.

Hi, I’m Jamie and I’m so happy you are here!

I started Boots Bows and Beaches a few years ago to share our craziness that is being married, working full time and of course being a mom of two teen girls.

Who knew I would learn so much and make such great friends while listening to country music and dealing with teenage hormones.
